Scottish and Southern Energy apologises for power cuts

Engineers in Scotland are working to restore electricity to tens of thousands of homes, after a powerful storm caused widespread disruption.

Attempts to reconnect supplies to almost 30,000 properties have been hampered by blocked roads and poor weather.

Gavin Steel of Scottish and Southern Energy apologised for the loss of power for householders.

He said staff would be working from first light to restore supplies.
