Tamper-proof holograms created to deter counterfeiting

Scientists at Heriot-Watt University have developed a new technique to fight counterfeiters.

Lasers are used to melt holograms directly onto the surface of an object to create security marks that cannot be faked.

They can protect against fake jewellery, electronics and aircraft parts.

BBC Scotland science correspondent Kenneth Macdonald has been taking a closer look.
