Edinburgh Festival begins with spectacular light show

A 3D light show with music from Mogwai has marked the start of the Edinburgh International Festival.

Thousands of people watched the rock beneath Edinburgh Castle be illuminated on Sunday night.

Deep Time told the story of Scottish geologist James Hutton's discovery of the concept of geologic time.

Director Leo Warner told the BBC the city's castle and the ground on which it stands were the inspiration for the event.
