Scotland set for 21 billion biting midges says forecast service

The first of Scotland's estimated 21 billion biting midges are due to hatch any day as Dr Alison Blackwell, of the Scottish midge forecast, predicts higher than average numbers following a mild winter.

Footage filmed by Craig McLaren, in August, shows his encounter with a swarm of biting midges in the Cairngorms.
