Budget 2015: Minister Swinney says stewardship of North Sea sector was poor
Scotland's Finance Secretary John Swinney said Chancellor George Osborne's Budget changes to the North Sea tax regime were welcome.
However, he believed they were needed because the UK government's stewardship of the sector had been poor.
Mr Swinney told BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme: "Action had to be taken to secure the long term future of the North Sea oil and gas sector and I certainly hope that companies take the signal from this that this is the opportunity to invest and commit for the long term to oil and gas in the North Sea and the Scottish government will do all that we can to support that effort."
