New hospital Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr opens in Caerphilly

The new £172m Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr general hospital has recently opened in Caerphilly county.

Services have moved from Ty Sirhowy Mental Health Unit, Ystrad Mynach Hospital and Caerphilly and District Miners' Hospital.

Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr features single, en suite rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, a dedicated stroke unit and a GP out-of-hours service.

As part of its series on the future of the NHS in Wales, BBC Radio Wales' Good Morning Wales visited the new hospital.

Presenter Oliver Hides spoke to Jane Carroll, a district nurse team leader in Gwent, who is also a lead steward with the Royal College of Nursing, and Carol Lamyman-Davies, director of the board of community health councils in Wales.
