Leighton Andrews could force WJEC to regrade GCSE papers

Wales' Education Minister Leighton Andrews says he is prepared to force the WJEC examining board to regrade English GCSE papers.

Mr Andrews has said a review has persuaded him hundreds of pupils have been the victims of an "injustice", a decision welcomed by teaching unions.

It follows a row about students being awarded lower grades than expected.

Mr Andrews told BBC Radio Wales that he would give WJEC a "reasonable time" to comply, but he would issue a direction if forced to do so.

WJEC has said it is seeking further talks on the issue.

Mr Andrews spoke to Oliver Hides on BBC Radio Wales' Good Morning Wales.
