Truancy: Ken Reid's call to speed up action
A leading expert has criticised the Welsh government for "painfully slow" progress in getting to grips with truancy.
Prof Ken Reid led a major review into attendance and behaviour in 2008.
But he says that despite a warm welcome from ministers, they have not fulfilled his recommendations to improve teacher training on managing pupil attendance.
The Welsh government said persistent absenteeism can effect children and all schools must have a behaviour policy.
