New teachers mentor delay worry - General Teaching Council

Wales' professional body for teaching is warning that hundreds of newly-qualified teachers are missing out on career support due to delays in implementing a new system of regional mentors.

During their first year on the job, teachers should be given a mentor, but the General Teaching Council said 500 of them were still waiting.

Unions are also warning that many teachers could drop out and be lost to the profession.
