Pope Francis: Archbishop of Cardiff George Stack welcomes new Pope

Pope Francis I is beginning his first day as Bishop of Rome and head of the Catholic Church.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina is the first ever Pope from South America and the first from outside Europe for more than 1,000 years.

The Catholic Archbishop of Cardiff the Most Reverend George Stack said he welcomed the appointment.

But he admitted to Bethan Rhys Roberts on BBC Radio Wales that the new pontiff was "virtually unknown".
