Tenerife killer's Glan Clwyd Hospital care faces inquiry

An official inquiry is to be held into how a man with paranoid schizophrenia was released from a hospital in north Wales only to murder a British woman in Tenerife.

Deyan Deyanov stabbed Jennifer Mills-Westley in the neck and cut off her head in May 2011.

Less than a year before, he had been treated in a psychiatric unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Denbighshire.

His victim's family said they believed there were failings in the way he was cared for while he was in Wales.

The health board which runs the psychiatric unit said lessons had already been learned, but it will be co-operating fully with the inquiry.

Chris Dearden reports.
