Mandela death: 'People expected great things of him'

Former Welsh Secretary Ron Davies remembers welcoming Nelson Mandela to Cardiff in 1998 on behalf of the government.

He said the then South African president, who has died aged 95, would greet people he had never met as if they were old friends.

Mr Davies was talking to Oliver Hides on the BBC Radio Wales phone-in Morning Call.

The programme also heard from a woman who got the shock of her life when she was hugged by Mr Mandela who suddenly appeared in the street in front of her that day.
