Police press conference after Pontyberem baby death

A dog has been seized by police following the sudden death of a six-day old baby in Carmarthenshire.

Police say they were called to a property in New Road, Pontyberem, shortly before 08:30 GMT on Tuesday.

The baby was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

The dog involved in the incident was an Alaskan Malamute, similar to a Husky, which is not a banned breed.

Ch Insp Ieuan Mathews said specially trained officers were helping the family following the tragedy.
