Home-Start funding 'helps scores,' claims charity

A comparatively small investment in volunteers who help families facing difficulties as a result of illness, domestic violence or disability can help scores of people, claims a charity.

The home-visiting service Home-Start Wales says almost half the families it sees have "hidden crises" on top of the issue for which they were referred for help.

Home-Start last year helped 2,000 parents and 5,000 children through the 14 schemes it operates in Wales.

The charity's Specialist Development Officer for Wales, Dr Carwyn Tywyn, said he faces a constant battle to secure funds.
