Matthew Williams: B&B owner 'shocked' over cannibal attack

The owner of a B&B where a young woman was murdered in an act of cannibalism said she is shocked and devastated by what happened.

Mandy Miles, who took over the Sirhowy Arms in Argoed, Caerphilly county, seven years ago, told BBC Radio 5 Live she discovered Matthew Williams attacking Cerys Yemm and raised the alarm.

She said the 22-year-old woman was already dead when she called police in the early hours of Thursday.

Gwent Police officers subsequently shot Williams, 34, who had paranoid schizophrenia, arrested him but he then also died.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating.

Ms Miles said vulnerable residents are placed at the B&B by Caerphilly council and other agencies.

She spoke to mark Hutchings.
