Investigation into Abergavenny Indian restaurant fire

Police are investigating a "serious" fire at a restaurant which resulted in two people being taken to hospital.

One of the main roads through Abergavenny is likely to be closed for much of Saturday following the blaze at an Indian restaurant on Monk Street.

Fire crews were called to Sundarbon Bengal Cuisine at 03:26 GMT and rescued three people from a property next door.

The A40 Monk Street remained closed in both directions between Lower Castle Street and Lion Street into Saturday evening.

Station manager Simon Brown of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters worked "tremendously hard" to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring properties.
