Rain and gale force winds are causing travel disruption and flooding while thousands of homes around Wales were left without power overnight.

Gusts of almost 96mph were recorded in Capel Curig in Conwy overnight while the Met Office issued a yellow "be aware" weather warning.

Five flood warnings are in place for rivers in Powys, Carmarthenshire and Wrexham along with 15 flood alerts.

Firefighters have rescued a man trapped in his car by flood water near Newport.
