Hairdresser cleared of dangerous driving deaths
A 21-year-old hairdresser has been cleared of causing death by dangerous driving after knocking down and killing an elderly couple as she used her mobile phone.
Taylor McDonnell hit 86-year-old Denis and Joyce Drew with her Toyota as they crossed the road near their home in Ponthir near Caerleon.
Taylor McDonnell denied two charges of death by dangerous driving, saying her phone was on a speaker at the time of the accident, not in her hand.
A jury at Newport Crown Court returned not guilty verdicts.
