New children's commissioner vows to be 'voice' of young

The new children's commissioner for Wales said she wanted to ensure youngsters did not "fade from our view" as she started work on Monday.

Prof Sally Holland joined from Cardiff University's School of Social Science, where she taught social work and childhood studies.

She also founded the CASCADE Children's Social Care Research and Development Centre.

Prof Holland said she did not want children to "be passive citizens" but to be "enabled to be active, demanding and contributing citizens too".
