Grass fires: 'Significant increase' in arrests

More people have been arrested in connection with grass fires in the past 10 days than in the past four years, a fire officer has said.

Assistant chief fire officer Andrew Thomas, from the south Wales fire service, said the arrests followed 1,400 blazes in March and April.

He said: "There have been more arrests in the last 10 days than we have seen in the last three to four years."

The fire service confirmed there had been 22 arrests in the past fortnight.

Mr Thomas spoke to BBC Radio Wales' Good Morning Wales programme.
