Amelia Jones murder: Granddad Mark Jones 'let down' family

A man who murdered his five-week-old granddaughter let down his family in "an extreme way," her parents have said in a statement.

Mark Jones, 45, of Cwmbran, Torfaen, fractured Amelia Jones's skull when he was supposed to be looking after her.

He was convicted of murder at Newport Crown Court on Thursday and was jailed for life with a minimum sentence of 25 years.

He was also jailed for four years after admitting perverting the course of justice - this sentence will be served concurrently.

A statement from Amelia's parents, read by Det Cons John Crandon on the court steps, said they hoped their little girl would never be forgotten.
