Port Talbot's Fairwood Fabrications closure 'heartbreaking'

An engineering company, which has strong links with the steel industry, has ceased trading with the loss of about 250 jobs.

Fairwood Fabrications, based in Port Talbot, has been involved in the steel industry for more than 35 years.

Jobs have been lost since its financial problems began in January and it has now gone into liquidation.

The company had supplied Tata Steel and was involved in making steel buildings and other products.

Chairman Gherold Davies said the family business had been frustrated not only by the difficulties in the steel industry but by the delay to the proposed £1bn tidal lagoon project in Swansea.

He told BBC Wales economics correspondent Sarah Dickins it would be "immense" for the area's industry.
