Albion Colliery: The mine in action before its closure

In 1894 almost 300 men and boys were killed in an explosion at the Albion Colliery, in Cilfynydd- the second biggest mining disaster ever in Wales.

But it was a resilient community and the pit was back in action within weeks.

The mine closed for good on 2 September 1966, and a school now stands on the site.

But there is a strong feeling locally that the history of the pit should be remembered.

This footage of the mine in action was filmed towards the end of its lifetime.
