Abercanaid rescue: Hurt biker winched into helicopter

A female mountain biker had to be airlifted to safety near Merthyr Tydfil after suffering a leg injury.

The UK Coastguard and the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team were called to the BikePark at Abercanaid at about 10:30 BST on Monday.

The coastguard's search and rescue helicopter, based at St Athan, was sent to help due to the difficulty in accessing the site.

Paramedics helped stabilise the casualty, before one was winched into the helicopter followed by the injured biker, who waas taken to Prince Charles Hospital.
