Merthyr Tydfil average house price rises by 15%

House prices in Merthyr Tydfil have seen the largest annual increase in Wales, rising by more than 15% in the past year.

The average property in the town now costs nearly £124,000, according to Principality Building Society's first housing index for Wales.

The national average is £174,319.

Peter Phillips, owner of Derek B Phillips Estate Agents in the town, said house prices there had dipped following the 2008 recession but were now returning to previous levels.
