Chepstow man's boxing training bid for wheelchair bout

A man who broke his back in a motorcycle accident is in training to fulfil his goal of fighting in a boxing match.

Gareth Hughes, 36, from Chepstow is hoping to be able to walk again by the age of 40 so he can get back into the ring or to compete in wheelchair boxing.

The boxing gym he trains at is among 80 community projects set to benefit from £300,000 of cash seized from criminals.

The Partnership Fund, run by Gwent police and crime commissioner Jeff Cuthbert, is funded by proceeds of crime and from unclaimed property.

Bertie's Caldicot Amateur Boxing Club is one of the schemes that will benefit - it will spend the money on equipment to attract more young and disabled people.
