Hazare begins public fast in a bid to end corruption

The Indian activist Anna Hazare has begun a public fast to push for a stronger anti-corruption bill.

Thousands of cheering supporters braved pouring rain to greet him as he arrived at the park where the protest is taking place.

He had previously vowed to remain in custody unless he was permitted to resume the protest which triggered his arrest.
