Protest rallies grip major cities

Protesters in cities across the world have taken to the streets to demonstrate against what they see as corporate greed and government cutbacks.

In Rome, police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse dozens of people who smashed windows and set fire to cars.

The BBC's Gavin Hewitt reports.
