Contradictions in a world of seven billion
Countries all over the world are marking the global population reaching seven billion by each nominating a child born on 31 October.
The UN calculated the milestone would be reached at some point on Monday - and with an estimated 200,000 babies born each day, there was plenty of choice.
But as the global population rises, the proportion of young people is decreasing, and the gap between the rich and poor is widening too.
