Obama pays tribute to troops in State of the Union

President Barack Obama delivered his third annual State of the Union speech to a joint session of Congress.

The annual state of the union, one of the most closely watched moments in US politics, traditionally includes policy prescriptions from the White House for the upcoming year.

Obama opened his speech by paying tribute to the armed forces saying "this generation of heroes has made the United States of America safer and more respected around the world".
