Ukraine: Jailed Yulia Tymoshenko is taken to hospital

The Ukrainian opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko has been moved from prison to hospital to undergo treatment for back pain by a German doctor.

The 51-year-old arrived by ambulance at a hospital in Kharkiv in a heavily-guarded convoy.

Concern over her treatment by the Ukrainian authorities has caused diplomatic tensions within the EU.

Ms Tymoshenko has been on hunger strike for more than two weeks after accusing prison guards of beating her, as Andriy Kravets of the BBC's Ukraine Service explained to BBC World TV's David Eades.
