Angelina Jolie announces start of Malala Fund in New York

The actress Angelina Jolie has paid tribute to the Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafazi describing her as a "powerful but sweet little girl" whose goal is "progress not notoriety".

The 15-year-old, who campaigns for girls' education, survived a gun attack by Taliban forces last October after receiving medical treatment in the UK.

Ms Jolie said the shooting had only strengthened the teenager's resolve.

The Oscar winner made the comments at New York's Lincoln Centre as she announced the start of the Malala fund - a grant system aimed at supporting schoolgirls in Pakistan.
