Cars 'losing wheels' in Russian sink holes

The Russian city of Samara doesn't just have potholes in its roads - it has sinkholes.

They are so big that cars and even lorries are actually falling into them.

Yulia Tazieva, who lives there, told the Today programme's John Humphrys: "They are dangerous for our health and our cars.

"Some people have lost their wheels or lights when they drove on the roads.

"The snow is melting now and there are heavy rains, so these big holes are covered with water. So when we drive on the road we don't see the big holes in the surface."

First broadcast on the Today programme on Thursday 11 April.
