Ukraine expected to dominate Merkel and Obama talks

The worsening conflict in eastern Ukraine will dominate talks between the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Obama at the White House this afternoon.

Germany and France are leading efforts to secure a new ceasefire between the Ukrainian government and Russian-backed separatists.

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has blamed Ukraine and the West for the ongoing violence.
