Rally as South Africa public sector strike enters ninth day

Public sector workers in South Africa are attending a rally in Johannesburg's commercial district as part of an indefinite strike over pay.

During the day tens of thousands are expected to join protest marches in cities across the country.

They want an 8.6 percent pay rise, but the government has only offered seven percent. The industrial action is now in its second week and involves over one million workers.

The BBC's Karen Allen describes the mood at the rally.
