Keeping track of Congolese gold

The BBC has uncovered evidence that a senior Congolese general used military force to help a company take over a gold mine, in return for a share of the gold.

The general allegedly used troops who were meant to be protecting local people from rebel groups.

Thomas Fessy visited a new scheme which aims to keep track of all minerals mined in the country, including gold and tin ore, otherwise known as cassiterite.
