South Africa president Jacob Zuma 'misunderstood' says spokesman
In South Africa President Jacob Zuma's new spokesman has admitted that the leader "doesn't come across well" in formal occasions but insists he is a man of the people.
Mac Maharaj - one of the African National Congress grandees and a close ally and friend of former president Nelson Mandela - defended his new boss and said he was a decisive leader.
Speaking to the BBC's South Africa correspondent Karen Allen, he confirmed that Jacob Zuma was poised to rein in the youth wing of the party - whose leader Julius Malema - has faced allegations of corruption, and is seen by many as undermining the president.
