Anti-Gaddafi forces launch 'final assault' on Sirte
Forces of the Libyan transitional government have launched what a frontline commander says is their final assault on the pro-Gaddafi stronghold of Sirte.
Barrages of rocket and tank fire have been directed at the town centre, with hundreds of civilians fleeing.
The BBC's Jonathan Head, reporting from a government front line in Sirte, described the attack as "unco-ordinated" and likely to last a long time.
