Drowned Somali runner remembered by her sister

A former Somali Olympic athlete has drowned while trying to reach Europe in a migrant boat.

Runner Samia Yusuf Omar competed in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and had hoped to participate in the London Games.

But she faced extreme difficulties as a female athlete in Mogadishu, with a lack of training facilities and threats from Islamist militants.

The BBC's Newsday programme spoke to her sister Hodan in Finland.
