Daredevil balloon stunt for Mandela charity

A South African man has floated over Robben Island tied to 160 helium-filled balloons in a stunt to support one of Nelson Mandela's charities.

Matt Silver-Vallance rose above the outpost where the country's first black president spent years as prisoner, before landing on a support boat near the Cape Town coast after popping several balloons.

The goal of the challenge was to raise money for the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund to help build a children's hospital in Johannesburg.

Mr Mandela, 94, was himself released from hospital hours after the daredevil flight, following treatment for pneumonia.
