Burkina Faso president: 'Only dialogue will restore peace'

Burkina Faso's President Blaise Compaore has called on people to put the "interests of the nation above everything else" as hundreds of protesters calling for his resignation gathered in the capital for a second day.

"Only through a consultative dialogue will we be able to restore peace", he continued.

And he repeated his claim that he would stay in power for a year during a transitional government, and not seek another term in office at the end of that period.
