Chinese fishermen 'stab South Korean coast guards'
The South Korean coastguard says one of its officers has been killed and another injured after boarding a Chinese fishing vessel.
It says the captain of the boat stabbed the men during the encounter inside South Korea's exclusive economic zone off the west coast of the peninsula.
The vessel was seized and the nine Chinese crewmen have been detained.
A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said Beijing was trying to clarify details and was willing to work closely with the South Koreans.
Lucy Williamson reports from Seoul.
