Residents and police clash over Manila slum demolition

The demolition of a shanty town in the Philippines' capital Manila has lead to violent clashes between residents and the authorities.

Police were pelted with rocks, bottles and molotov cocktails and responded by turning water cannons on home-owners and activists.

Nearly 300 houses will be torn down and about 2,000 people stand to lose their homes.

The residents of the shanty town had resisted the planned demolition for nearly one and a half years.

Tom Santorelli reports.
