Afghan killings: Obama's condolences after massacre

US President Barack Obama has phoned his Afghan counterpart to offer his condolences after the massacre of 16 civilians in Kandahar province by a rogue American soldier.

He told President Karzai there would be a full investigation into what happened, calling the killings "tragic and shocking".

Mr Karzai condemned the attack on civilian victims, nine of whom were children, as "unforgivable".

The BBC's Quentin Sommerville reports.
