Nepal protests as constitution deadline expires

New elections have been called in Nepal after the constituent assembly failed to reach consensus over the new constitution before its term expired.

Clashes took place on the streets of Kathmandu between riot police and two groups of people, one in favour of and the other against the creation of states on the basis of ethnic identity.
