Cambodia cremates former King Sihanouk

It has been a day of remembrance and respect for Cambodians as the man who was their king for more than 50 years was cremated in the capital Phnom Penh.

King Norodom Sihanouk died in October in Beijing but the funeral rites that began on Friday were the final chance for Cambodians to commemorate a man who was a central figure in their turbulent recent history.

King Sihanouk was 89 and came to power in 1941 when he was still a teenager.

Jonathan Head reports from Phnom Penh.
