Maldives 'must hold' new election - Nasheed

Maldives opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed has called for fresh presidential polls under a caretaker leader, after police halted the vote.

He said President Mohamed Waheed Hassan must resign to allow the parliamentary speaker to oversee the elections.

On Saturday police stopped the election, saying the process was illegal.

Charles Haviland reports.
