China air zone 'purely for defence' says ambassador
China's ambassador to the UK has told the BBC that the air-control zone, which Beijing set up over disputed islands in the East China Sea, is "purely for defence".
The Chinese government is embroiled in a bitter row with Japan over the ownership of the area.
But Ambassador Liu Xiaoming said the country's actions regarding the zone were not a sign of aggression.
Michael Bristow reports.
