Nine people were killed when gunmen broke into a hotel in the Afghan capital Kabul and attacked diners on Thursday evening.

Two Afghan children and four foreign nationals - women from New Zealand and Canada, and men from India and Pakistan - were among the dead.

Four armed youths with small pistols posed as diners before they opened fire. The Taliban said it was behind the assault.
