What might have gone wrong with AirAsia flight QZ8501?

AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501, an Airbus A320-200, disappeared over the Java Sea an hour into its flight at 06:24 local time (23:24 GMT Saturday).

Boats and planes have been scouring the area looking for signs of the plane.

Authorities say no distress call was made by the pilot - but bad weather was reported in the area.

BBC Transport Correspondent Richard Westcott looks at the airline's safety record and what investigators will be focusing on in their search for answers.
